Black

#111314

Black here is a very slightly softened black with a faint cool cast, close to printer's ink rather than a pure void. It is the most frequently used color in the book, appearing in 23 combinations, and it acts as a frame for brighter colors. Orange and Yellow become loud and graphic against it, while Carmine turns dramatic and theatrical. With about 18.6:1 against white it is the strongest text color available, and light colors set on it read clearly. It suits typography, lacquered furniture, formalwear and high-contrast posters.
