Carmine
#cc1236
Carmine is named for the red pigment traditionally made from cochineal insects, and it shows: a deep, intense crimson with very high chroma and a cool-to-neutral lean. It sits against Helvetia Blue for a strong, almost flag-like contrast, beside Cream Yellow for a warmer, circus-poster feel, and with Black for maximum drama. White text on it reaches 5.7:1, enough for normal text, so it doubles as a background for labels or buttons. Try it on lacquered boxes, theatre programmes, packaging for luxury goods or a bold upholstered chair.
