English Red
#d96629
English Red is less red than the name suggests: a burnt, rusty orange with the warmth of clay roof tiles. Its lightness sits right in the middle of the scale, which explains why the pairing with Cerulian Blue is so striking, since both share nearly the same value and the edge between them seems to shimmer. Peacock Blue does something similar, while Ivory Buff gives it a calm, earthenware ground. It reaches 3.6:1 against white, acceptable for large display type, and black on it gets 5.9:1. Terracotta-toned tiles, kilim-style rugs, and rust-colored leather goods all suit it.
