Madder Brown
#762c19
Madder, a plant root used as a red dye for centuries, gives its name to this deep russet brown, closer to dried chili or a rusted iron gate than to chocolate. Its red lean is strong for so dark a color. Turquoise Green and Green Blue set it against cool aquas for real hue opposition; Lemon Yellow makes it vivid and graphic; Deep Indigo and Violet Blue turn it into a dark, smoldering combination. At 9.8:1 on white it is excellent for text and rules, though black on it barely registers at 2.1:1. It suits rugs, leather, and deep accent walls.
