Vandyke Brown
#4b3317
Vandyke Brown is a deep, dark brown, close to espresso or wet peat, with only a mild warm lean; the pigment is named after the painter Anthony van Dyck. In the book it frames lighter, warm colors: Seashell Pink and Cream Yellow sit on it like pastry on a dark wooden table, while Yellow Ocher and Raw Sienna build an earthy gold-and-brown palette. Deep Indigo makes a near-black pairing with almost no contrast. It reaches 11.8:1 on white, so it can replace black for body text with a warmer feel. Good for walnut cabinetry, bakery packaging, and leather goods.
