Yellow Ocher

#e2b540

Yellow ochre is one of the oldest painting pigments, an iron-rich clay, and this swatch matches its warm, sunlit gold, with a slightly redder lean than Olive Ocher at similar lightness. In the book it is often set beside dark partners. Vandyke Brown places it against deep, earthy shadow, Pale Burnt Lake adds a dried-blood maroon, and Deep Lyons Blue produces a classic gold-on-navy contrast. As a text color on white it fails at 1.9:1; as a ground for black type it holds 10.9:1. It suits terracotta-and-gold interiors, book jackets, and painted plaster walls.
